STEM/Science Teachers

Deann Bloomer

My name is Deann Bloomer, I have been a teacher here at Lincoln Middle School for the past 18 years.  I am proud to call Oceanside my home and currently have two boys attending school in our community.  I received my bachelor's degree and teaching credential from California State University of San Marcos. I chose teaching middle school because this was the age in my life I felt positive

guidance was crucial to the pressures of society around me.  Receiving my teaching credential with a middle school emphasis has allowed me to  “pay it forward” to the students of today.  While at Lincoln I have been involved in coaching both volleyball and soccer, and am currently the acting science department chair, AVID coordinator and on the NGSS Leadership team.  I absolutely love this middle school, even on a bad day this community keeps me striving to be a better teacher and mentor! I am a life time learner, even with

my 18 years of experience, I am still learning new things daily from teaching kids. I hope to teach my students how to take each day's events to help build a

brilliant future for themselves and our community.  Together I believe we will

learn from one another and “shape tomorrow, starting today”.

Colleen Ludka

Hi, my name is Colleen Ludka and I am thrilled and honored to be a part of the Lincoln community! I grew up in San Jose, CA and earned my Bachelor degree from UC Santa Cruz in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology. I spent the next 15 years working in the genomics field at UCSD, Pacific Biosciences, and Synthetic Genomics. In 2016 I received my biology, chemistry, and multiple subject teaching credentials from Cal State San Marcos. I specifically chose to work with this age group because middle school is such a critical time in children’s lives. I strive to help students realize that they each have a place in this world and that what they think and say is of great value. I do this work through the lense of science and engineering, both of which are incredibly useful tools to make sense of the world we live in. I am a wife and a mama, and I love to spend my free time exploring the outdoors and reading.

Sara Fraschetti-Williams

Mrs. Williams is originally from Encinitas, CA and she attended Cal Poly, San Luis

Obispo where she played Women's Lacrosse.  Mrs. Williams majored in Education and minored in Business Administration.  She grew up camping and hiking in the Sierra Nevadas with her family where she fell in love with nature and discovered her curiosity

for Biology and Conservation.  After college Mrs. Williams was an Executive Recruiter

and simultaneously coached High School and Middle School Girls Lacrosse in North County until she realized that coaching and teaching is her true love.  Mrs. Williams went back to school to obtain her teaching credential in Science, touching back to her

childhood love of Science and Biology.  She has been teaching Science and Engineering here at Lincoln ever since and her goal every year is to help her students fall in love with Science, foster curiosity and creativity and promote problem solving!  Mrs. Williams

named her baby girl River, which is a testament for her love of the outdoors.

Her favorite quote is:

"Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better." ~ Albert Einstein

Britain Bulicki

My name is Britain Bulicki and I teach 6th and 7th grade STEM (Science on your child’s schedule). I grew up in Two Harbors, on Catalina Island which instilled in me a passion and awe for the ocean, animals, and our planet, as well as a strong sense of community. After attending CSU Long Beach for my bachelor's degree, teaching credential, and later for a master’s degree in science education, I have now been teaching Science, STEM and/or Math for 14 years. Some of my passions outside of school are the ocean, all things blue, crafting and creating, cooking, kayaking, the beach, reading, spending time with my large extended family, husband, basset hound Marley and cat Tiggs, and traveling both near and far. As a cancer survivor,  I have been involved in Relay for Life, Vista for years and am the team captain of our school’s Flip Flop Fighters Relay team. My love of reading has inspired me to host a Book Club for the 2017-2018 school year. I welcome any parental support and/or volunteers for our STEM class, Book Club, or Flip Flop Fighters.

Cameron Gurney

My name is Cameron Gurney and I teach 7th Grade Science here at Lincoln Middle School. I am married with no kids yet but have plans to add a dog or two soon.  I love everything that is outdoors and/or science related but my passions stem deep in geology and earth science. I grew up in beautiful Washington State, living and breathing every aspect of the great northwest. Growing up in a state that is home to 10 different volcanoes instilled a love for geology early on. I also enjoy camping, hiking, tennis, reading any and all Clive Cussler books and spending my free time with my family.

When I began college I was unsure on the best path for a future career so I made a plan to wrap up my basic requirements and then make a career decision. After my first semester at Pierce College in Puyallup, WA, I reignited my passion for geology through an excellent and inspirational college professor who showed me that their is career in geology(and teaching). I ended up taking every geology course I could and even invested in multiple geological field excursions to further my passion. I transitioned to Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA, where I obtained my Bachelor’s of Science in Geology in 2009.

During high school I began working at a northwest grocery chain to save money for college. Following my graduation from college in 2009, I continued developing a career with this chain while leading geology labs at local community colleges. In 2014, after developing a career in retail management with the same grocery chain, I made the decision that I wanted to inspire young students with science the way that I was inspired.. With other family in Southern California, my wife and I moved so I could attend the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. I obtained my Masters in Teaching from USC and began teaching at Lincoln Middle School in 2016.

Stephen Sly

Hello! My name is Stephen Sly. I teach Science and Visual Arts here at Lincoln Middle School. I am passionate about both subjects, and find the cross over intriguing and relevant. I began my teaching career as a substitute teacher in 2012. After graduating with a BFA in Graphic Design and a Minor in Music from Cal State University Fullerton in 2012, I decided to give substitute teaching a try. I fell in love with being in the classroom. After a few years of substituting I decided to go back to school to work on my teaching credential. I was fortunate enough to be accepted to the Middle Level Program at Cal State University San Marcos. This program is unique, it is the only program in the state dedicated to training teachers specifically for the middle grades. I find that middle school students are amazing humans. They are capable of so much and I really believe in the education that we provide at Lincoln. The community is one of a kind, the students, and staff are unique and inspiring. I am excited to work with our students to help them grow into responsible and productive citizens. I look forward to getting to know our

students, to share interests, and learn from them.

Susan Cooper

Shay Johnson

I grew up in Murrieta, California where I attended school K-12. I went to college at CSUSM where I majored in Kinesiology and later earned my teaching credential through their Middle Level Education Program in Multiple Subjects and General Science. I’ll be teaching 8th grade Science and Applied Biology (gardening) my first year here at Lincoln Middle! It is important to me that I establish a strong community in my classroom where students feel safe, cared for, and supported!

I have many passions in life, two of them being my curiosity and interest in SCIENCE and my joy for TEACHING (like fusion)! I am eager to share this interest with my students and hopefully spark a sense of wonder within them. We will take a journey from the incomprehensibly small to the infinitely large, understanding the connectedness of everything along the way!

Some of my other passions in life include hiking, camping, playing tennis, cooking healthy cuisine, reading non-fiction, and dwelling on the beach.
